The Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence



Wow! I read this book cover to cover in a few days despite being a mum to a newborn baby and here’s why.
Fantasy fiction is my favourite genre but bloody hell, there's a lot of terrible novels out there, but this isn’t one of them. I was gripped from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. There’s none of the tired clichés associated with fantasy such as a friendly, wise wizard, a ancient prophecy, an epic journey or quest, and so as the plot twists and turns you really never know what’s going to happen next. I found the character of Jorg really interesting, he’s a really strong fresh character and surprisingly charismatic.
I’m so happy that the sequel is already out so I won’t have to wait long to read it.
This is a really promising debut from a very talented writer.

Terror Forming by P.A.Sheppard

  This book really blew my mind! I'm not into science fiction at all, but I bought this book as I'm a big fan of Paul Sheppard after reading The Night Crawler which was released by Aphotic Realm. I'll admit some of the science bit went over my head but it is clearly very well thought out.  The plot is just wild, this book is a thrilling ride through space and bodies! The story starts off with a baby who is very sick and only very desperate measures will save them. Then we are introduced to Eve, a woman on the run through space trying to escape with her life she escape from one source of danger only to find herself in an impossible situation. This is a brilliantly bonkers book. It's so hard to explain the outline of the plot it something you'll have to read for yourself to know. All I can say is that this is a great book that I read in one sitting as it's so gripping and I couldn't  put it down as I had to know what was going to happen next!

The Stone Road by G.R.Matthews

I was introduced to this book as part of Fantasy Faction's Book Club where we all get together and discuss our favourite books. This time the administrator chose a title that had been self published. Out now via Amazon Now I'm going to let you in on a little secret, that yes of course there are a lot of really bad self published books out there, but there are also some really good ones. Since buying a kindle I've bought numerous self published titles for as little as 49p and have enjoyed most of them. Recently I read The Lady of the Helm by T.O.Munro and that was really very good.
